I still have an Iomega Zip 100 drive on my desk. Not connected. Not powered. Just... there.
It was my first "real" backup system during the 2019 OVHcloud migration outage — https://status.ovhcloud.com. We blew our error budget in six hours. I was running postmortems for three days straight, and this little drive was where I kept the incident timeline. Blameless culture meant we all learned, but transparency about root cause meant I stared at that timeline until 4am.
The click of death got it eventually. But I keep it as a reminder: transparency in failure builds trust faster than hiding it. Also the translucent blue matches my keyboard backlight.
