Hello all, I want to ask can or not? Which control panel you use already for long time. My boss want me choose one for new OVHcloud server. I try cPanel before, price already go up so much lah. DirectAdmin I hear is cheap but can work or not dong? Plesk I never try. Or something else can? Please share your experience already. Thank you.

I voted DirectAdmin already for three years no problem I do not understand why people pay cPanel prices I run fifteen servers with DirectAdmin and saves enough for nice vacation every year I say try it you will not regret

Thanks for starting this discussion, it's a question we hear often. A few notes from our experience across thousands of deployments:

  • cPanel: mature ecosystem, higher licensing cost
  • Plesk: strong Windows integration, good WordPress tooling
  • DirectAdmin: lightweight, cost-effective, improving rapidly
  • Custom: KnownHost and RackNerd offer proprietary panels worth evaluating

Happy to check specific requirements via DM if helpful.

I made VPS last month with Vultr, they use DirectAdmin. Very fast, no problem. Before I use cPanel, very expensive for me. DirectAdmin can do same thing, backup, database, email, all there. I recommend to you. 🙏

IMO DirectAdmin is the underappreciated option here. YMMV depending on your workflow, but for straightforward hosting it's solid. Take it with a grain of salt though, I migrated off cPanel two years ago and haven't looked back. The interface takes some adjustment. Not as many plugins as cPanel, but the core features are there. I think the price difference speaks for itself if you don't need specific cPanel-only tools.

I have been with Hetzner for a while now and have evaluated all major control panels for my infrastructure. Current deployment specifications:

  • DirectAdmin: 340 nodes
  • Plesk: 45 nodes (legacy Windows requirements)
  • Custom: 12 nodes (specialized workloads)

DirectAdmin performance metrics:
  • Memory footprint: 40% lower than cPanel equivalent
  • Update frequency: comparable
  • Support response: 24-48 hour SLA

I do not use cPanel on new deployments due to licensing structure changes in 2024-2025.

In the value-added redistribution space, the partner ecosystem has been leveraged to achieve significant synergy through strategic control panel selection. The virtualization tax is minimized when the platform is leveraged for maximum synergy across the partner ecosystem. Our value-added redistribution operations have been transitioned to a lightweight alternative, and the synergy has been leveraged to benefit all stakeholders in the partner ecosystem. The markup structure is optimized through this leveraged synergy.

Which lightweight alternative did you actually switch to, rick?

seedbox, NAS, tape, and three offsite
