Contabo broke my "guaranteed price lock"

I am writing to document an experience with my former provider, Contabo. In March 2025, I subscribed to their "Lifetime Price Lock Guarantee" plan with the following specifications:

• 4 vCPU cores
• 8 GB RAM
• 160 GB NVMe storage
• 10 TB monthly transfer
• €6.99/month, guaranteed locked

On June 15, 2026, Contabo notified me that my plan was being "sunsetted" and I would be migrated to their new "FlexTier" platform. The new rate is €11.99/month. They cited a clause in the Terms of Service allowing "platform modernization with equivalent or better resources."

I requested clarification on how this honors the price lock guarantee. Their support confirmed the price lock applies only to "discontinued plans on legacy infrastructure," and since I am being migrated, the guarantee does not apply.

Contabo AS51167, prefix 203.0.113.0/24. Seen this playbook before. They announced that /24 last year with no IRR, no RPKI. Now they're squeezing prefix holders on pricing.

Your guarantee had no ASN requirement in the contract, I assume? Without AS64497 or better, you're just a residential prefix in their eyes. Here's their network:

They deaggregated your trust. Anyone with a real AS would have caught this in the LOA. I run AS64500, my prefix stays clean.

Lol that sucks dude... Contabo did this to me last year.. forced me onto their new plan and my bill went from $4 to $9... I tried to fight it but support said it was "equivalent or better" even tho my new vps had worse cpu... you cant trust these price lock gimmicks.. I moved to InterServer after that and its been ok... never doing lifetime anything again

I had this exact thing with KnownHost two years ago. They called it "infrastructure evolution". Same doublespeak. Ended up paying double for a vm that booted slower. Never got my original price back. Even filed a ticket that went nowhere. The guarantee was worthless once they defined "legacy" however they wanted...
