So here's what happened. I cancelled a small Contabo VPS back in September, got the auto-reply, thought nothing of it. Then this week I see a fresh PayPal charge for $47.88. I opened a dispute and PayPal rejected it same day — "too much time has passed since the transaction."
The charge is dated Dec 10, so I guess they mean from the original subscription start? Not the charge date? Either way I'm out $48 and still getting invoices.
- Cancellation email: Sept 12, 2025
- Last invoice before today: Sept 1, 2025
- New charge: Dec 10, 2025
- PayPal case: closed Dec 11, "ineligible for dispute"
I did test my restore process before cancelling (3-2-1 rule, always ). But I didn't test that they'd actually stop billing me. Anyone got a path that actually works when PayPal shuts you down? The Contabo ticket system feels like a black hole.

Bellaauc — PayPal's buyer protection is 180 days from payment but some banks let you chargeback up to 540 days for recurring billing disputes (sometimes nested )

Bella, sent ticket yesterday to Contabo for different issue — got reply in 4 hours! Maybe they fixed queue. Also made test order with OVHcloud last month, cancellation worked fine. Try their live chat if you have it!
For PayPal, call your card issuer directly. They don't care about PayPal's 180-day rule. Cheers!

$47.88 FOR A BOX YOU CANCELLED?? ARE YOU KIDDING
Contabo had that €4/MO deal I SNAPPED IT UP in 2023, same billing ghost. Charged me 8 months later.
Chargeback timeline: Visa = 120 days from charge date, not transaction start. You're INSIDE the window. GO GO GO
