Backup strategy: I just rsync to another provider's storage

Push from the VPS using the public key only for encryption

Or pull from a HostHatch Sydney box if you are in AU. I have a storage VPS there, $3/mo, rsync over wireguard from the source. The source never initiates. Different ASN, different continent from my main. Propagation time to switch DNS to it is under five minutes because I run my own resolver with short TTL.

I run rsync without it and I keep 30 days of snapshots

What provider gives you 30 days of snapshots on a $3 storage box? Hetzner? Backblaze?

Following this. I am on HostHatch Sydney too and did not think about using it as a pull target.

It is not a $3 box, it is their storage VPS tier, about $12 for 1TB. The snapshots are manual, I do one every weekend. Not automated but I have calendar reminders.

Manual snapshots fail. Human memory fails. I have seen it in Chicago datacenters, I have seen it in colo cages. The backup that matters is the one you forgot to make. Automate or accept gaps.
