Bloody good target. 03/02/2026 and most "green" hosts don't even publish their PUE.
Metric: PUE 1.3 means for every kWh of compute, 0.3 kWh gets burned on cooling and auxiliary power. European average sits around 1.6. Some old French datacenters blow past 2.0, it's a disgrace.
What actually matters:
- physical server location (less transit = less network loss)
- real power source, not certificates
- ambient air cooling when possible
I ran the numbers: 1 kWh of compute in France clocks ~50g CO2 thanks to nuclear. Even "green" German does 300-400g with their coal + intermittent wind mix.
RackNerd "green" with no details is just marketing fluff eh
PUE 2,0 is genuinely absurd, old french DCs need to catch up
