So I got this Hetzner 256MB OpenVZ box for €4/month and im staring at it like what do I even DO with it
Ran some numbers:
52 boxes in my spreadsheet and this ones the runt of the litter. DNS seems like the $/GB/RAM winner but feels wasteful for a whole VPS. WireGuard exit node maybe?

IMO unbound or knot resolver is the sweet spot here. YMMV but I've run unbound on 128MB without issues, take it with a grain of salt though.
WireGuard works too but you'll feel the 256MB if you push throughput. DNS is kinder to the node and your neighbors on the host.
Verify your restores
I tried running pihole+unbound on 256MB. Looked fine for 3 months. Then the host had a kernel panic and my backup was corrupted because I never tested it. Verify your restores weekly. That box is now a DNS node with rsync to a second provider — https://rsync.net
Slightly paranoid maybe but I've seen 256MB containers get killed by OOM with zero warning
