What do you use for domain monitoring that catches issues before customers do? · Domain Names

I use HetrixTools for the external checks. $15/year for 15 monitors from multiple locations. Not self-hosted, not fancy, but it caught a DNS issue my internal stuff missed.

Worth considering if you want cheap and do not need to own the whole pipe.

I had a "genuine" thermal paste turn to concrete in 48 hours. Manufacturer blamed "counterfeit" until I sent it to a lab. Turns out it was genuine — just genuinely terrible.

Security through obscurity they said. But honestly for tiny boxes the noise reduction matters. My syslog daemon was CPU bound parsing auth entries before I moved ports.

Still use iptables rate limit on top, because targeted scans exist...
