I priced this out properly last month. Windows Server 2022 Standard at a Swiss reseller is about 900 CHF for the license plus CALs. For a home lab or small project that is simply not justifiable. I understand why people rearm. I do not do it myself, but I understand.

For 15 servers I would honestly consider NixOS and deploy-rs. Reproducible, atomic, no agent beyond SSH. But the learning curve is real.

Geneva perspective: we have very strict CO2 law for new buildings. Datacenter must show lifecycle analysis. The diesel must be in it. I don't know if Contabo could build in Switzerland with this marketing.
