Hey guys so I was reading through my new host TOS because I actually do that sometimes and found this clause I missed in section 14 point 3 "unmetered bandwidth is provided on a reasonable use basis with a soft limit of 10TB per month after which service may be rate limited or suspended" so basically unmetered means metered but they dont tell you the meter until you hit it any leads on hosts that actually mean unmetered or is this just standard now recieved this from fiberkoi by the way

Yikes thats some noob trap right there gg fiberkoi soft limit on unmetered is like saying unlimited ssd but its actually 20gb yikes my boxes push 15tb easy on game servers no way id touch that TOS pwned before you even start

Oh dear this sounds like my internet box situation my nephew set this up last year with Hetzner and I just asked him about this he said "dont worry aunt linda you dont use 10 terabytes" but what if my business grows I sell handmade soaps online and the photos are very high quality he also said the RAM is 4GB which sounds like a lot but the computer at my house has 500GB so I dont understand why the hosting one is smaller should I call GoDaddy

This language is now standard across three providers I checked. The virtualization tax of enforcing actual unmetered on oversold nodes is too high. They use tc or cgroup net_cls to shape after the threshold. Technically not a hard cap but functionally identical for most workloads.
