YABS on 50 different $10/year plans, the variance is absurd

Why CloudCone only has Los Angeles?

They started there, stayed there, keeps costs down. Not everyone needs global. If you're targeting US west coast eyeballs, one good datacenter beats three mediocre ones.

OVHcloud Gravelines vs Roubaix, any difference in practice? Looking at their VPS line, same specs, same price, Gravelines has stock more often.

Gravelines is newer buildout. Roubaix is the historic campus, some halls have mixed generations. If you can choose, Gravelines. Strasbourg is the quiet one, nobody talks about it but disk is consistent there.

Vultr Singapore

Vultr Sydney to Melbourne is 15ms but their Sydney disk is worse than Singapore disk in petra's data. I pay the latency tax and use Singapore from Melbourne. Explain that to my clients.

This thread convinced me to run YABS before I keep any VPS past the refund window. Is there a standard threshold people use? Like, abort if disk under 500 MB/s?

Standard threshold

No universal threshold, depends on workload. But for my dataset, anything under 300 MB/s on a claimed NVMe plan is a red flag. That's SATA SSD territory and you paid for NVMe.

Got one from KnownHost Dallas, 280 MB/s. Complained, they moved me to another node, 1.1 GB/s. Same plan. The lottery is real lah.

Following. Need to pick a new host for mail relay. Mediaaustin you still here? Disk speed matters for mail queues or is that just IOPS?

Both, but IOPS is the bottleneck for maildir with thousands of small files. Sequential throughput matters less unless you're doing something exotic. YABS tests both, watch the IOPS column harder than the GB/s.

I can share the dataset

Did you test Time4VPS? Vilnius only datacenter, curious if single location means consistent hardware or just old hardware.
