So the young people worry their homelab looks cheap... all free tiers and cloud nonsense... I remember when we learned on hand-me-down Sun boxes pulled from dumpsters... three ellipsis minimum, always... the skills matter, not the invoice... back in my day we had 64MB RAM and we made it work... the young people panic over nothing... free tier teaches you constraint... constraint teaches you craft...

Actually it is not my circus, not my monkeys if someone thinks free tier is bad XD but actually I dont think no one should care what you pay... actually the problem solving is what matters, not what you dont pay for... double negative but you get it... I run my whole lab on free credits and nobody can tell no difference...

Source engine servers ran on worse hardware than most free tiers now... tickrate was 66 and we made it work... Kids play valorant now, no idea what real optimization looks like... used to host 32 player css on a pentium 4, mourns that community every day... your free tier homelab proves you can squeeze blood from a stone, thats the skill...

What could go wrong... free tiers log everything!!! Your data is the product... WARNINGS about egress costs and hidden monitoring... fail2ban on every box, firewall everything, assume breach... I look for resource-constraint problem solving specifically when I hire... shows they can think when the fancy tools break... 👀
