WordPress staging that actually works on cheap hosts?

I keep uploads on a separate subdomain pointing at the same directory.

This is smart actually. I just checked my Hostinger panel and the subdomain thing works but they cap symlinks on the cheapest plan. Something about "security" lol.

Also 3am update: I tried frank59's rsync approach and the host killed the process after 90 seconds of cpu time. These reseller accounts are worse than the shared ones.

Might just pay WPvivid. Tired.

Kiddo thats why you pipe through split

My script chunks the db export into 50MB pieces, rsyncs them, then cat on the other side

45 seconds was with a 800MB db on Hostinger Phoenix. Your Vilnius server is probably slower.

Want the script or you gonna keep whining

Before you do, their Pro tier is 49 USD a year last I checked. For that money you could get a 2GB RackNerd VPS in LA and run your own staging there with actual resources.

I moved all my staging off shared hosts last year. Docker compose, nginx proxy, automatic LetsEncrypt. My compose file is 400 lines but it works for 8 client sites now.

Shared hosting staging is a dead end. The throttling is the feature, not the bug. They want you on VPS.

my cloud. my rules. my 3AM alerts.
