Running a legacy inventory app that needs Windows GUI. RDP is laggy over 200ms. Any optimization tips before I give up and rent a desktop?
Current setup: 2 vCPU, 4GB, Contabo Nuremberg. App is .NET 2.0, no headless mode exists. Tried -gfx:rfx, still choppy.
1. RDP optimization checklist
A) disable wallpaper and font smoothing
B) set color depth to 16-bit
C) enable compression
2. Network path matters more than specs
A) anycast routing can add 15-20ms vs direct
B) single-homed scrubbing adds worse latency
3. Activation headache you will hit
A) KMS vs retail key confusion
B) rearm limit is 3, not infinite
4. Honestly consider terminal services vs full desktop
I) less attack surface
Ii) same app compatibility usually
