Why does .io still cost $35 when the registry is a charity?

So I look into this.io thing. British Indian Ocean Territory. Charity status since forever. But renewal still $35. Where the money going. Registry been running this for years and prices only go up. Something not right here. Important question.

Bro the charity angle is wild ngl. Like I get it.io has that startup aesthetic, but $35 for a string in a database? My LLM inference costs per token are dropping faster than domain prices ever will. The registry margin on these must be insane. Back when I was provisioning training clusters at Vultr, we burned through more in VRAM than this whole TLD probably costs to run. Someone is definitely pocketing the spread between "charity overhead" and actual infrastructure.
