UK Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 31. If the total price is not transparent, the contract is not binding as stated. However, enforcement against a US entity requires them to have UK establishment or you to use small claims, which is impractical for £50/year.

I keep a spreadsheet. Column A: company. Column B: TOS version date. Column C: renewal language exact quote. KnownHost last updated theirs March 2025. GreenCloudVPS last updated December 2024 and still uses "at our then-current rates" without specificity.

The practical answer is: stick to EU or UK-registered providers if price certainty matters more than specs.

This. So many "UK" brands are just Cyprus shell + Cloudflare. I got burned by one last year. Renewal tripled, support vanished, company name changed same week.

My free tier strategy: AWS Lightsail, Oracle Cloud, Google Cloud always-free. If one bill jumps, I migrate. Painful but possible when you have zero budget.

Classic. We called them "phoenix hosts" on the desk. Same WHMCS template, new brand, old customers stranded. The abuse reports kept coming to our old queue because they forgot to update ARIN contacts.

To clarify: I meant for anything needing uptime. Their €35 tier is single PSU last I checked. For a shop website, that's fine until it's not.

I moved my own stuff to HostHatch London after testing their failover. $8.99 renewal is predictable and their status page is honest about maintenance windows.

I have machines in their Amsterdam and Zurich locations. The renewal price has been stable for two years, but their London datacenter is not actually in London proper. Traceroute shows Telehouse East, which is fine, but they list "London" when it's Docklands. Minor gripe.

The real issue with capacity planning is not the dollar amount, it's the variance. I model $8.99 ± 0. HostHatch delivers that. Leaseweb models €35 then surprises with €85 plus backup as line item.

Has anyone tried just asking sales for a 3-year lock? I did this with KnownHost for a managed VPS. Got the promo rate frozen for 36 months in exchange for annual prepay. Not published on their site, but sales agreed in writing.

Worth trying before you click "monthly."

I resell Time4VPS here in Jakarta. The €3 to €6 jump is real, but my customers don't complain because I tell them upfront. I build it into my pricing. The problem is when upstream changes terms and I eat the difference.

The providers who hide renewal prices are usually the ones who won't lock them either. Correlation or causation, you decide.

Sorry if this was covered already, but does anyone know if Leaseweb has to tell me the renewal price before I buy if I'm in the UK? I got lost in the legal stuff above.
