When is bumping acceptable?

I have observed inconsistent moderation regarding thread necromancy across this board. Under GDPR article 17, data subjects may request erasure, yet our posts persist indefinitely—creating archival obligations that conflict with organic discussion flow.

My proposed framework:

• Technical threads: bump acceptable if new relevant information emerges (kernel patch, security advisory)
• Market threads: bump within 30 days only, price data stale thereafter
• Meta threads: bump never, start new per "article 13" precedent on fresh deliberation

Currently the TOS states "do not bump old threads" without temporal definition. What constitutes "old"? 30 days? 180 days? One year? This ambiguity creates compliance risk for users and moderation burden for staff.

I seek community consensus before drafting formal proposal.

U kids never had to wait for FIDO net and you know what, bumping wasnt even a thing you just posted when the BBS dialed back up :-) 14.4k modem days, threads lasted weeks between replies and nobody cared!!!
Now everyone wants instant gratification. U r all spoiled with your fiber. My first hard drive was 20MB and we managed just fine.

Old = 6 months imo. Anything less is still warm.

I see thread from 2023 still helpful for my problem with cPanel backup and I want say thank you to poster but moderator say no bump my friend. Very frustrating.

In my country forum always allow thank you post no matter how old. Maybe different culture here but I respect rule of course.
