Last I checked the Hetzner refurb page it was €159 for 27" 1440p and €119 for 24" 1080p. They come and go. The auction servers are the real story.

The auction servers are the real story. I have an EX42 in the basement pulling 85W idle. Nuremberg to Denver latency is irrelevant when you are using it for local ZFS send targets. My wife asked why the basement hums. I said it is the sound of data integrity.

My oldest is a 2012 ThinkPad T430. Daily driver. IPS mod, 16GB DDR3, 9-cell battery from AliExpress that claims 6600mAh and delivers maybe 4000. The keyboard is the old layout, 7-row, before Lenovo ruined it. I have three more in a closet for parts. Detroit does not lack for used ThinkPads.

Good hill. I have 1920x1200 in workshop. HP LP2475w. Found in recycling center, Helsinki. CCFL backlight. Warm color, slow to full brightness. No PWM flicker. Better than LED for eyes in dark Finnish winter.
Palm syncs to this machine. Serial cradle to USB adapter to Debian. Pilot-link still compiles. I have written patch.
CCFL. Now that is a word I have not heard in anger for a decade. The Dell is LED, probably PWM at some frequency that gives me a headache if I dim it below 80%. I keep it at 100% and accept my fate. The reams of paper under it are Hewlett-Packard branded. Symmetry.

I am administrating from 2012 the Dell PowerEdge R720. It is not on desk. It is in corridor, loud, with noctua fans that cost more than my first car. The iDRAC still works. I have 64GB RAM and I use 4GB. The rest is for dignity.

How much did you pay for R720? In Bucharest they appear at 200-300 EUR with no RAM no drives. I add Samsung enterprise SATA from Germany, resell to local hosting guys who think they are getting deal. They are, I am just getting better deal.

400 PLN. From company liquidation in Gdansk. Came with 2x E5-2670, 32GB, no drives. This was 2019. The noctuas were 600 PLN. Dignity is expensive.

Oldest on desk: Apple Extended Keyboard II. 1990. Alps switches. ADB to USB adapter from some guy in Japan on eBay. I wrote a Rust driver for the adapter because the existing one had 2ms of jitter. Now it has 0.3ms. The keyboard outlived three adapters. I am considering rewriting the keyboard firmware itself. The IC is a Zilog Z8. There is no Rust target. I will make one.
