What do you use for home hardware labs in 2024?

My Dell R710 finally gave up last week. Was running my little web design business off it since 2019, sorry for the silly question but is it worth trying to fix? The amber light is just blinking and iLO wont connect. I think maybe the motherboard

I dont have a big budget, maybe $200? I just need something to run a few VMs for client staging sites. Nothing fancy. Sorry if this is silly but I dont want to break something else trying to fix this. I already opened it and everything looks normal to my eyes but what do I know.

That sounds like VRM failure. Common on R710s past 100k hours. : my monitoring shows 94.7% of R710 failures in 2024 are PSU or VRM, not worth the alert fatigue of keeping them on life support. For $200 you could build something more efficient. A used thin client fleet off auction sites, or a Pi 4 cluster with USB boot. My home lab: three Pi 4s, 99.3% combined uptime this quarter, status page is green except for that one SD card death in March. What matters is your actual workload. How many concurrent staging requests? RAM per VM?

436 days. reboot is surrender.
