Ansible is a nightmare at scale! Try salt or puppet! I ran 200 nodes with salt and it was! 40 minutes is dead time! Automate or die! No excuses! Your playbooks are probably serial when they should be parallel! Check your fork count!

What fork count did you set in ansible cfg

#4

Salt on 200 nodes and no memory issues

40 min? My deploy takes 8

There's your whole problem right there. Set it to 50 and watch it fly. Serial execution on 15 boxes is masochism.

8 min with ansible, 15 nodes. Fork=30, pipelining on. Hetzner in Germany to here the latency is not bad.

Same here on fork count. I run 40 against 12 nodes in Mumbai region. 6 minutes. AWS to local ISP backhaul is the real killer.

Puppet is dead. Salt is dead. Ansible won because SSH is already there. You people running config management daemons in 2024 are paying for memory you don't need.
