What did you learn this month from a complete stranger online

Someoneelses Knowledge is the only Knowledge worth having, I have decided. The YouTube Algorithm gave me a seventy year old grandmother in Latvia doing cable stitch and now I have a lumpy scarf. The Comments Section of a forum thread about Router Default Passwords taught me more about Security Culture than any Certification ever could[1]. The Stranger does not know they are teaching you. This is the purest form.

[1] it was admin admin, and the Stranger was horrified on my behalf

New ticket: "user reports neighbor hacked wifi, demands we trace mac address and press charges." the ticket history said they had never changed default password. The ticket resolution said "educated user on wpa2, suggested admin/admin is bad practice." I was the stranger, I suppose.

reported. resolved. repeat.

The lumpy scarf is the best part.

This is why I changed all my relatives' routers to randomized passwords and wrote them on tape inside the drawer. The alternative is being tech support for life.

Tried this for my bakery's reservation system. They wanted a credit card and sent me three "your instance is being reclaimed" emails before I even logged in. Stuck with Linode now.

Yes this is true, but no charge if you stay in limit. I am use for wireguard only, very stable.

Reflowing with hot air

Did you use actual hot air station or hair dryer? Because one of those is your problem. I watched a stranger on Louis Rossmann's stream explain capacitor plague in a ThinkPad and now I check every motherboard I touch.

This. The stranger who told me about ss instead of netstat changed my life. Ifconfig still works on half my machines from muscle memory but I feel guilty every time.
