Wanted a /24 for a small hosting project. Checked the usual spots, brokers asking $45-50 per IP now. Last year it was $38. Year before that $28.
Where are people even buying these days? RIR waitlists are basically "check back in 2028." brokers all feel like the same three guys with different websites. Anyone found a non-insane channel lately or did I miss the boat by about four years
/24 for sale. No lowballs.

You did not miss the boat; the boat is simply on fire and taking on water.
The primary channels remain the same, but the economics have deteriorated as expected. RIPE exhausted its free pool in 2019, ARPNIC and AFRINIC have strict justification requirements, and LACNIC has not had a general allocation policy change since the runout. What you are observing is the secondary market functioning exactly as predicted: bilateral transfers brokered through entities like Contabo's IP brokerage division or the various resellers operating under NDA with RIRs.
If you pursue a transfer, you must perform due diligence that most buyers neglect. Verify the source block's routing history via RIPEstat or BGPlay. Check for hijack events, stale route objects in the IRR, and incomplete RPKI ROAs. A /24 with a history of being announced by ASNs in three different continents over six months is not a bargai

Bought a /18 once from a broker who "definitely owned it"
The ticket said the entire range was clean. Two weeks later the ticket said 200+ spamhaus listings from the previous owner running bulletproof hosting out of a OVHcloud reseller in 2019. Took six months to get SBLs dropped. Previous owner was allegedly a dentist in ohio. Dentist had excellent BGP skills for a man who mostly did root canals.
My advice: check the WHOIS history back ten years. If the block lived in russia, then brazil, then a colo in moldova, it's not a networking project it's an archaeology dig

52 boxes and I still cant justify /24 prices at these levels
Ran the numbers:
- /24 = 256 IPs
- $45/IP = $11,520
- My whole fleet costs less than that per year
I do NAT vps on like 80% of these anyway. 1 IP + 20 ports per customer. Works fine for wireguard exits and scrapers. The other 20% I just rent single IPs from Hetzner at €2/month. Comes out to €25/year vs €11k upfront. Break-even is what, 460 years?
If you NEED the /24 tho I saw one on some discord broker for $38/IP but the guy wanted crypto only and wouldnt show RIR paperwork. Seemed super legit. Definitely not a dentist

If youre dropping 11k on IPs you better have hardware that justifies it
My last pallet was 12x Dell R630, dual E5-2680v4, 128GB each. Whole pallet $3400 with rails. Draw 180W idle, 340W loaded. Fit 24U in a 42U cabinet at my RackNerd colo, $15/U/month so $15/month for the rack.
/24 on top of that is noise. But without the servers its just expensive air. What are you even running on this block? If its just VMs on some Contabo KVM slice — https://contabo.com/en/vps/ — rent the IPs monthly till you have actual metal worth announcing. BGP only makes sense when you have something to announce FROM
