Ok so I figure I will start since I am the one asking and I have a lot to say about this actually so here goes I run a small hosting setup for some friends and family and also a couple of small business clients nothing major but important to them and to me and I have been through three different backup strategies over the past four years first I was using a NAS at my sister's house but then she moved and I had to drive there to get it which was a nightmare because it was snowing that day and I had pancakes for breakfast and my cat Mr whiskers kept jumping on the keyboard while I was trying to configure the new router and he knocked over my coffee and the weather was terrible and I thought I was going to crash the car and then I switched to cloud backup with GreenCloudVPS — https://greencloudvps.com — but I never tested the restore and when I finally did it failed and I lost three weeks of emails and my client was furious and now I use a disque dur at the bank but I am pretty sure the bank guy thinks I am a drug dealer because I come in every tuesday with an external drive and I never explain and I still do not test restores regularly which I know is bad but I am busy and who has time so my question is what do you all do and do you actually test your restores because I bet most people do not
