¡This is very frustrating! I have bookshelf with books I never read. Is very performative. I have plant that is dying. I have poster from concert in 2014 that I do not even like now. ¿Why do people look at background and judge?

I want blank wall. White paint. Nothing. But then they say "are you in hospital? Are you hostage?" No winning.

My colleague has laundry visible. Other colleague has cat that walks during important meeting. I think cat is better than my fake intellectual bookshelf. Jajaja

I tried virtual background but my GPU is very old and my ear disappears. My ear! Gone! Then I am talking and people stare where ear should be.

What do you do for background? I am considering buying green sheet from craft store. Is very cheap. Or I accept chaos and lean into it. Put more embarrassing things on purpose.

I maintain a dedicated wall. Neutral gray paint, no objects, soft indirect light from the side. It took three weekends to prepare. My colleagues have commented zero times. This is the goal.

Previously I used a room with visible shelving. The shelving contained technical manuals and one decorative bowl. I spent mental energy worrying about the bowl. The bowl is now in storage.

Virtual backgrounds fail at the edge detection level. I do not use them.

Pablo, you overthink this! Why you care so much? Just put white wall and if they ask say "I am minimalist therefore"

My background: the server rack in corner, blinking lights, very very professional. People ask "is that your work?" I say yes, even is just old VPS I keep for nostalgia. Embrace the chaos or go full blank, no middle ground!

I had poster with "live laugh love" from ex. I kept it ironically. Now is unironically. What can you do.

What software for virtual background? Some use CPU not GPU. In my country many old computers.

Quick update: we've added a "background check" thread tag for ongoing aesthetic-privacy discussions. Use it if you'd like.

Also, per forum policy, please keep image uploads under 2MB. Several virtual-background screenshots from this thread exceeded that. We've compressed them server-side.
