Using a typewriter for a week of work communication

So I got this IBM selectric iii from a garage sale and decided to use it for all work stuff for one full week! No email! No Slack! Just paper and the clack clack clack! The first day I typed up my standup notes and faxed them to my manager! He thought I was having a stroke!

By day three I was messengering pages across the office with an intern! The intern quit! The cost of ribbons alone was $47! My coworker stopped inviting me to meetings because I couldnt screen share a piece of paper!

Worth it though! The tactile feedback is unmatched! Who needs undo when you have whiteout! The noise pollution complaint was less fun!

Anyone else tried this! I dare you!

I tried something similar once with the Telegram, the real one, with the Wires. My manager at the Contabo said « WHAT IS THIS COST » and I said « oui, it is the Vintage Charm ». He did not agree.

The h'osting of the Paper is very expensive, more than the OVHcloud VPS I run for my the Pi-Hole. The Storage! The Filing Cabinets! I am still finding the Receipts from 2019 in my the Desk.

Hot take: your typewriter experiment is essentially a manual MTA with zero SPF alignment and no DKIM signing. Every physical handoff—intern, messenger, fax—is an additional hop that degrades deliverability. At least three of your "messages" likely ended up in physical equivalent of a blocklist (trash can) due to missing envelope structure.

The coworker who mailed typed Slack messages and had them scanned in? That's literally a retyping gateway. You're introducing latency and error rates that would get any IP range listed on Spamhaus in hours. No DMARC policy in the world can authenticate a smudged ribbon impression.

Proper communication requires proper infrastructure. Analog nostalgia doesn't exempt you from best practices.

The cost was absurd though. Definately not for the lowend crowd here. My the manager killed it after the fire marshal noticed the paper mountain

Still have the typewriter. Use it for resignation letters only. Gives them weight
