Understanding your DC's fuel supply contract

I am buy yesterday a guide from consultant about diesel logistics. Very expensive, very useless. I am read the real contract myself now. Here is what I find:

Your "7-day supply" is not 7 day. Is 7 day at 25% load. At real draw? 36 hour. Xixixi

The contract say "minimum 168 hours runtime." Small print: "per genset, at tested load profile, per NFPA 110 Level 1." Tested load profile is 25%. Your real load is 85-90%. Math: 168 * 0.25 / 0.85 = 49 hour. Minus derating for old engine, bad maintenance, summer heat: 36 hour. Maybe 30.

Ask your DC:
1) What load percentage for the "7 day" claim?
2) When last fuel polished?
3) What is actual tested runtime at 100% load?

They will not answer. Or they lie. Xixixi lah

Good catch. I've seen this at three facilities now. "7 day" written big, "at 25% load" written in 6pt font on page 12.

Real numbers from my last gig:
- 4x gensets, 2000L each
- Claim: 7 days
- Reality at site load (380kW): 52 hours
- After fuel polishing losses, tank sediment, conservative cutoff: 44 hours

Always ask for the fuel curve. Always test at actual load. 2U server doesn't matter when the gensets fail at hour 18.

This is why I going to build my own DC someday

This fuel math is crazy that contract language is crazy

My provider say "going to have 5 day supply" going to be 2 day in reality going to be very funny when power out

The hosting industry and its tricks. I have seen this in Paris, in Marseille, everywhere. The contract is the theater, the runtime is the reality.

One provider claims "10 day autonomy." They have one genset. One! And the fuel tank? Half empty since 2019.
