Transitioning from hosting to cloud-native consulting

So after fifteen years in the Budget server business I am considering the Jump to Cloud native consulting yes the Problem is I have built my entire Skillset around Cost optimization and Resource throttling no now every Interview wants me to talk about Consumption maximization and Managed service margin expansion yes it feels like switching from Diesel engine tuning to Electric vehicle battery degradation analysis no has anyone here made this CultureShift successfully

My main concern is the Psychological adjustment from telling clients to squeeze every Gigabyte to encouraging them to provision Redundant multi region kubernetes clusters for a static LandingPage yes the Invoices look very different no but so does the Ethical framework maybe

You are not switching industries. You are switching incentives. Same hardware, different margin structure.

Locked. Take it to DMs.

My clients made this jump already and honestly the premium consulting rates are worth it, my clients love the premium multi-cloud strategies we build for them, anything technical just open a support ticket with my team

Electricity costs stay the same but the optimization changes, ja? Used to optimize for uptime per watt, now optimizing for billable hours per contract. Profitability follows different curves. Workload is workload.

I don't buy the "same hardware" line, managed services run on totally different economics
