Tiny RAM game servers—Source engine memory diet

Running CS 1.6 dedicated on 256MB at Hetzner. Debian minimal, stripped kernel, custom cvar limits.

Sv_maxrate 7500
Sv_minrate 3000
Sys_ticrate 100 + fps_max 150

Stable 12 players. Modern Source branches need 512MB minimum. Engine bloat killed the art.

Posting my full cvar diet below. Who else still doing this?

[code]// 256MB CS 1.6 server config
Sv_maxupdaterate 30
Sv_maxcmdrate 30
Mp_decals 50
R_decals 50
Sv_downloadurl "" // disable HTTPDL
Sv_allowupload 0
Sv_allowdownload 0

No logs, no proof. I have logs.

I have seen this business for 20 years and mark my words, the bloat will only worsen. Source 2 will demand 2GB before you even load a map. Your CS 1.6 setup is a museum piece. Beautiful, but a museum piece. Nostalgia does not pay the power bill, and soon nobody will remember how to compile a kernel that small — https://www.kernel.org.
