Three years of hosting from a war zone

I have operated infrastructure through regional conflict since 2023. As far as I know, this is not a common topic in hosting forums. I will share what I learned.

• Connectivity: We maintained three independent upstream paths. When fiber was cut, microwave link remained. When microwave was jammed, satellite backup activated. Redundancy is not theoretical here.
• Payments: International cards failed. Cryptocurrency became essential. To be precise, I maintained wallets across three chains after the first exchange blockade.
• Community: Strangers offered mirror hosting. One user from this forum, as far as I know now living in Berlin, hosted our primary mirror for six months without asking payment. I cannot name them without permission.

Fritz48 thank you for sharing this. Why pay for commercial monitoring when you can self-host uptime kuma in docker compose behind a reverse proxy? I run this stack for three years now, alerts to matrix, total cost zero. Your three-path setup is excellent but have you considered self-hosted bgp looking glass? docker compose makes this trivial. Friendly suggestion.
