Same here on the BOINC thing. Protein folding, not even crypto. Contabo support said "computational workloads belong on dedicated servers." Then why sell VPS?
Moved to Hetzner, no issues since. Their CPX11 handles burst fine, sustained load I scale up. Honest product tiers.
Does Contabo still use SolusVM? Their client area looks custom now but I remember the SolusVM days. RackNerd definitely uses SolusVM last I checked.
SolusVM security record is... not great. Another reason to prefer providers with own panels or standard APIs.
RackNerd uses Virtualizor now, migrated most nodes in 2023. SolusVM only on legacy stock.
Contabo's panel (https://my.contabo.com) is fully custom, has been since at least 2021. Not better, just different bugs. I had an invoice show "€0.00" for three months, then they corrected it without explanation.
