I requested price match from Hetzner against a competitor. They matched immediately, no questions asked. Seemed too easy.

I checked later. The "competitor" has no incorporation records, no traceroute history before last month, and their WHOIS is privacy-guarded with registrar in same building as Hetzner's parent. Their "about" page uses stock photo also found on three other hosting sites.

Something is wrong here. Has anyone else encountered this?

Let me check check the domain for you.

Is it? The nameservers are pointing to Vultr infrastructure? I am seeing that. Go go look at the A record history.

This is smelling like shell company, my friend. Fake competitor to make price match easy.
