The same three people answer everything

The Concentration of Expertise on this Forum

I have been observing the Reply Patterns for six Months now. Three Individuals answer approximately seventy Percent of all Technical Questions. This creates a dangerous Knowledge Bottleneck and Contributor Burnout Risk.

The same Names appear under every Thread about Budget Hosting, IPv4 Routing, and Control Panel Troubleshooting. I do not wish to name them, but we all recognize the Writing Styles.

What happens when these three People take Vacation? Or find better Hobbies? The Forum Knowledgebase will collapse like a cheap Virtual Private Server under DDoS Attack.

Please to share your Observations on this Phenomenon. Are we too dependent on Unpaid Labor?

The 'cloud' kiddies burned out years ago. Real server operators do not burn out. You want burnout? Try running a forum on a toy with 4 cores. workstation class or nothing. bare metal does not ask for vacation days. 'cloud' in scare quotes because it is just someone else's bare metal you cannot touch. These three answer everything because everyone else is playing with toys.

Pro tip: I am one of the three, and I am exhausted.

  • I maintain fourteen active free tier instances across three regions for testing
  • I write guides because Oracle documentation is fragmented
  • I do this between compiling cycles at my day job

Heads up: my manager noticed. My performance review mentioned "excessive context switching." I may need to step back in Q1.

The other two are in similar situations. One of us is actually two people sharing an account. I will not say which.

licensing is a suggestion

Turns out there's a four-hour gap where none of them are active, and the forum basically dies for questions. I set up a

cron job
to bump unanswered threads during that window. It actually works.

Also @olya your compile cycles are like 20 minutes each, that's some serious rust code

works on my bench ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
