So I bought this lifetime vps from Hetzner back in 2018 right,,,,, 35 dollars one time,,,,, Everyone said they'd be dead in a year,,,,, The scrap gods laughed and laughed,,,,, Well its 2025 and im still ssh'd into the thing right now typing this,,,,, Debian 9 but who cares,,,,, 2gb ram 1 core 20gb ssd,,,,, I run a irc bouncer and a mumble server and some weird python thing I wrote in 2019 that checks if my mums website is up,,,,, Still works,,,,, Ive migrated everything else three four times but this little box just keeps going,,,,, So I wanted to ask if anyone else has a lifetime deal that actually lasted or am I just blessed by the scrap gods,,,,, Also I checked my panel and theyve still got my original ticket from 2018 asking "is ipv6 included" lol,,,,, ~~dave

Two server from RackNerd LTD, 2019. One die last year, one still alive. Will check panel every month, very nervous XD.

Uptime
14:32:01 up 892 days, 4:17, 1 user, load average: 0.08, 0.02, 0.01

The live one still on OpenVZ 6, kernel 2.6.32. Virtualization tax is REAL, cannot run docker, very sad. But for DNS slave will survive. The dead one they "migrate to new platform" then bill start. Classic.

Your Hetzner still original platform? Or they convert you quietly?

Very cheap yearly. I hope it last 7 years sir!

Your story give me hope, sir. Maybe some host actually honest. Rare but possible.

Still original platform far as I can tell,,,,, Same control panel login, same IP block, same everything,,,,, They never emailed me about migration or new platform,,,,, Just quietly kept the lights on,,,,, I think maybe they forgot these old lifetime boxes exist,,,,, Or maybe its on some ancient node they dont want to reboot,,,,, Either way im not asking questions,,,,,

Classic is right. I've watched this movie a hundred times. "We're upgrading your experience" means "we found the loophole." Hetzner's got actual revenue from real products though, maybe that's why they never bothered chasing the lifetime stragglers. RackNerd's whole business model is arbitrage on someone else's rack space. Different incentives.

Hetzner never sold lifetime plans through their main site. This had to be some reseller promo or a specific regional thing? Their auction servers sure aren't lifetime, I pay mine every month like a normal person.

It was a black friday thing through a partner site,,,,, Not hetzner directly,,,,, I think maybe lowendbox or stacksocial or something,,,,, Definitely not official hetzner promo,,,,, But the invoices say Hetzner GmbH and the IPs are theirs,,,,, So somewhere in the chain it got honored,,,,,

My RackNerd still alive but I already mentally write off. If die tomorrow, not surprise. Already have backup plan with BuyVM for DNS slave, $2/month. Cheap insurance.

Your Hetzner partner deal very lucky. Like finding money in old coat.

We run about forty Hetzner auction boxes in Falkenstein and Nuremberg. Never heard of any lifetime deal in our billing, and we would have noticed. This has to be some third-party bundle that Hetzner fulfilled but didn't design. Their current cloud pricing starts at 4 EUR for the smallest CX11 — https://www.hetzner.com/cloud. Your 35 dollar one-time was probably someone else's loss leader.

I search for lifetime vps now, only find fake. All "lifetime" now mean 3-5 year then problem. Your 2018 deal is miracle sir. I will tell my customer: no lifetime, only yearly with good backup.
