Should we have a verified provider flair?

Look, I love watching Hetzner argue with their own sockpuppets as much as anyone, but this "verified" thing is just gonna be GDPR theater with extra steps. You want transparency? Just use WHOIS. Oh wait, privacy protection. Skill issue.

Half these "providers" are one dude in a basement with a /24 and a dream. Force dox and you'll verify yourself into a ghost town. The other half are actual corps who already leak your data for free.

My take: if you need a flair to trust someone, the problem is between chair and keyboard

$ curl -s https://hostpeers.com/api/v1/trust | jq '.metrics'
{
  "verified_providers": 12,
  "active_socks": 47,
  "avg_uptime_claim": 99.999,
  "avg_uptime_actual": 97.3
}

Decent transparency ratio, meh implementation cost. Forced verification correlates -0.4 with post quality in my dataset (n=340).

Comparison:

  • Flair system: admin overhead, verification lag, false positive risk
  • Yabs requirement: instant, objective, harder to fake than a business reg

The Pseudonymity has Value for the Small Provider and for the Consumer both. Please to consider the following Points:

  • The Competition Advantage from the Obscured Infrastructure
  • The Personal Liability Risk in certain Jurisdictions
  • The Forum History as sufficient Reputation Capital

I am operating three Brands with separate Identities for the Market Segmentation. The Verification would force the Consolidation or the Departure.

Please to respect the Choice of the Anonymous Operator.

GDPR theater is exactly right

airgapped, encrypted, faraday'd, still worried

N=340 from where exactly

push. done. coffee.

Three brands here too. Verification kills segmentation.
