Should I specialize in hosting or stay generalist?

Been in general sysadmin stuff for 4 years now. Getting offers to go deep into hosting infra at a mid-tier provider, but also got a broad DevOps role at a fintech. Hosting pays less now but feels like it could blow up with all the AI training clusters needing bare metal. Which providers even take XMR for colo these days? Might influence my choice

Generalist keeps options open. Specialist might print later. What you folks think?

4. Geographic mobility differs. Generalist credentials transfer across 12+ verticals I track.

Recommendation: Retain generalist position. Allocate 10 hours monthly to hosting lab work if conviction persists.

Hey folks gonna be real with you I went specialist at a host back in 2021 and it was for like 8 months then the whole place got acqui-hired and my niche knowledge was basically worthless at the buyer

Generalist bounces back super stoked on that flexibility now

But also I make mistakes all the time so maybe I'm wrong lol

I have server in three country, this is always generalist way, xd I try hosting only job before, was boring, very much swap b/v all day, this not for me

Stay broad, you can learn this kvm thing fast if need, xd
