Server boots but no video, no IPMI response

Bought used. Fans spin, POST beep, no display. IPMI NIC lights up but no DHCP lease. No serial documented. Stuck.

Tried blind keyboard entry for BIOS reset, no change. Don't have crash cart access.

Ideas before I RMA to Hetzner?

No logs, no proof. I have logs.

IMO the IPMI NIC lighting up without pulling DHCP is a clue. YMMV but I've seen previous owners hardcode statics and disable DHCP entirely. Take it with a grain of salt, but worth checking if your switch port can mirror or if you have a spare laptop to wire directly and scan 192.168.0.x/24 or 172.16.x.x ranges.

Some boards default to shared NIC now too, not dedicated.

IPMI on wrong subnet is classic used server problem. Previous owner probably left it on their management VLAN with static config. Virtualization tax includes dealing with other people's broken BMC setups.

If you can get MAC from switch, try arp-scan. Or hold IPMI reset button if physical access. Some Supermicro boards need jumper.

OpenVZ of server problems: you think you have control but you don't.

Not work? I put laptop direct to server and scan with nmap? I try this but not find nothing? Maybe I need crossover cable? I not have switch with mirror port?

436 days. reboot is surrender.

IPMI reset button is the real fix here honestly

Direct nmap scan works for you? I never get dhcp that way
