Santiago VPS exists and I regret finding out

Back when I started in this business, "Chilean hosting" meant a friendly engineer with a DSL line and a dream. Kids these days think they have it rough. Mark my words, you don't know suffering until you've experienced South American bureaucracy in 2025.

Found HostHatch Santiago via obscure forum post. Price was suspiciously reasonable. The process:

• Day 1: Signup form rejects all non-Chilean RUT numbers
• Day 2: Email negotiation in broken English, they accept passport scan
• Day 3: Receive contract as handwritten scan, must print, sign, scan back
• Day 4: Payment via bank transfer to account with no IBAN, only local routing
• Day 5-6: Silence
• Day 7: "Your server is ready, welcome the family HostHatch"

72 hours of my life I won't get back. The server works. I regret everything. Back when we used fax machines, at least the failure modes were understood.

I write long post about Chilean telecom law but delete. Too boring. Short version: 2000s privatization make infrastructure mess. Many provider still operate like family business, not tech company. Very slow, but sometimes very good price. Is gamble.
