Running Mastodon on €8/month at Hetzner 1GB KVM not OpenVZ so actual kernel no virtualization tax on context switches federation works fine with 40 active users 200 remote follows media is the killer though 50GB filled in three weeks had to get creative

Windows Server would handle this poorly but your setup sounds solid what are your sidekiq queue numbers like in my experience Linux does better with the ruby memory footprint to be fair

What sidekiq concurrency are you running, I never got that stable on 1GB
Which kernel version, and did you tune vm.swappiness?
