Running small web agency on free tiers since 2023. Architecture:

- Vultr compute (always-free 1 vCPU, 1GB)
- Oracle DB (free tier, 2 autonomous instances)
- Hetzner static hosting (10GB free)
- HostHatch CDN (free 100GB/mo)
- Leaseweb email relay (5k emails/mo)

Total bill: €0. Uptime 97.3%. Perkele.

Three client sites. E-commerce on Vultr, two brochure sites on Hetzner. Automated deploy via GitHub Actions.

Monitoring: self-hosted UptimeRobot alternative on spare Raspberry Pi.

Not sustainable? Maybe. Working so far.

Ii) 5 separate failure modes
3) Personal opinion
A) "Free" is valid for learning
B) "Free" for production client work:

Caramba! 8 days down per year, nossa, the clients don't complain kkkkk?

Not saying is bad, not saying is good neither... but double negation here: I don't don't think they know, you know? The free thing

Meandering thought: spent three years on Vultr free, never had no problem, but also never had no client who needed 99.9% neither. Warm and fuzzy until is not, ne?

The architecture is not not clever, beto gives that. But the stress? The waking up at 3am? Don't see that in the diagram, friend

How do you handle backups on free tier? Sorry if dumb question

Do you have a disaster recovery plan? Sorry

Hel seems like a pro tho, very inspiring

97.3% uptime for paying clients? That's rough.

Which UptimeRobot alternative and what Pi model
