Been shopping for VPS deals again and the buzzword density on some of these provider pages is INSANE! So here's my quick decoder ring for anyone else wading through the fluff.
"Cloud-native infrastructure" = we rent servers from someone else
"Enterprise-grade" = has a RAID card, maybe
"AI-optimized" = we heard NVIDIA exists
"Scalable" = you can pay us more later
"Blazing fast NVMe" = shared SATA SSD, good luck with IOPS
The worst offender I found? Vultr's homepage had 14 buzzwords in 200 words. Fourteen! Their "AI inference cluster" is literally Ampere Altras — which ARE insane value, don't get me wrong, but just say that!
Real specs > marketing fluff every time. An Ampere Q80-30 runs circles around most "enterprise cloud" VMs at 1/3 the price.
Anyone else want to score a page? Post your worst find!
one small ping for man...

Vultr's Ampere Altras are solid hardware though. I moved a client off their "AI inference" plan to plain VPS and the performance barely changed, just the invoice dropped 40%. Marketing fluff pays their bills I guess.

Lol Vultr's "AI inference cluster" on Altra is such a weird flex
Ngl tho for actual LLM inference the VRAM math doesn't work — no GPU means you're CPU-bound on context length. Fine for embeddings I guess?
Hetzner does the same thing but at least they list memory bandwidth numbers. 320 GB/s vs Vultr's mystery meat "high throughput"

I look at the RackNerd page for how to say... ten minutes? They write « bare-metal performance » but the offer is KVM on shared host. Is not the same thing, no?
Also I count: « The premium Tier-1 network » — they forget h in nothing but add the RackNerd everywhere. Oui, I find three « the RackNerd » in one paragraph. Very strange.
Random Capitalization on « Revolutionary Control Panel ». Revolutionary for who?

We list memory bandwidth now, thanks for the nudge
