RackNerd's 1Gbps unmetered is a 95Mbps hard throttle after 71h

Back when I started in this business, "unmetered" meant something you could verify with a Cisco switch and a calculator. These days, it means whatever the marketing team dreams up between lattes.

I rented a "1Gbps unmetered" box from RackNerd for 30 days. Ran continuous iperf3 to my own endpoint, logged every packet with tcpdump, and graphed the results.

The truth: 940Mbps sustained for 71 hours, 23 minutes. Then a hard throttle to 95Mbps. Not gradual. Not "fair use" negotiation. A cliff. Tc qdisc show confirmed HTB with a 95Mbit ceil.

I have 2.1TB of pcap files. The community is welcome to them. Provider's response to my ticket: "Our fair use policy permits burst to 1Gbps, sustained is subject to network management." The policy was last updated three days after my ticket.

Kids these days call this transparency. I call it what it is. Mark my words: within two years, "1Gbps" will mean "1Gbps for one hour monthly" and we'll have accepted it.

Back in my day we had 56k and you knew exactly what you were getting lol none of this "up to" nonsense :-) 940Mbps would have been science fiction back then you kids dont know how good you have it even with the throttle lol I ran a bbs on 2400 baud for 3 years never complained once :-) RackNerd should just be honest and say 95Mbit sustained 1Gbit burst like the old ISDN days at least then you r not lying to ppl
