RackNerd IPv6-only is broken, anyone make it work?

Got this IPv6-only VPS from RackNerd for 3.99 bro. Wanted to save money for my side project. Didnt know half the internet still doesnt speak v6. Cant even apt update.

Anyone actually running ipv6-only in production? What is the trick? I heard about NAT64 but RackNerd doesnt offer it. Need to self-host or what?

Specs: 1 vCPU, 1GB, 20GB SSD, RackNerd İstanbul. Price is insane but connectivity is broken!

Lol RackNerd and their ipv6-only marketing tbh they know exactly what theyre doing. No nat64 included because that costs them v4 addresses which defeats the whole point. You can self-host tayga on another box or use public nat64 servers but those are flaky. Debian has nat64 in repos but config is annoying. Honestly for 3.99 just accept the hobby status. Arch btw https://wiki.archlinux.org has better ipv6 support than most but even we need v4 for some aur mirrors

Ngl running LLM inference on IPv6-only would be a nightmare. Most model repos are on huggingface and their IPv6 is... spotty? I tried once on a HostHatch instance, had to tunnel everything through a v4 proxy. VRAM math already hurts, dont add routing pain lol.

For your apt issue specifically: Vultr runs a public NAT64 at 2a01:4f8:c2c:123f::1 but its best effort. I wouldnt rely on it for production.

Actually I tried ipv6-only on Hetzner last year basically same problem bro (´・ω・`) apt couldnt resolve half the mirrors. Basically you need DNS64 + NAT64 together or nothing works. Actually I wrote small guide but forgot where I put it... sorry!!!

My workaround was basically using vps with v4 as jump host. ssh -D and proxy everything. Not elegant but works. Actually for 3.99 maybe just accept the pain?

RackNerd istanbul at 3.99, what's the upstream bro

Vultr NAT64 died on me twice. Best effort means worst effort.

fio, iperf, geekbench. results or gtfo.

Had the exact apt issue on a different host, dns64 is the real gotcha

RackNerd İstanbul

RackNerd dont have istanbul DC bro check again. Probably routed through EU or middle east with high latency. Their site https://www.racknerd.com lists LA, SJ, SEA, CHI, DAL, NYC, Ashburn, ATL, Amsterdam only.

Wait what?? I bought from a reseller page that said Istanbul. Maybe they reselling someone else under RackNerd name? The control panel says RackNerd though. IP geolocates to Turkey. Confused now.

Classic reseller grey market. RackNerd themselves dont have presence in TR. Probably buying bulk in Amsterdam or somewhere and tunnelling with local IP block. Explains your broken v6 too, its double NAT hell before it even hits the real DC.

For 3.99 just treat it as learning tax.
