Oh wow I feel even dumber now. It was like "hetzner-deals" or something I think? The logo looked kind of similar. I just wanted something cheap to learn on

So my stuff is definitely gone then. Starting from zero.

For the backup thing - my laptop is windows. Is there a simple way to auto backup a wordpress blog or do I need to learn linux commands

Wait so how do I check if my host is the real one or a scam? I'm on contabo.com which seems to match the real site but now I'm paranoid

Also can someone explain the restore test thing? Like do I literally download the backup and try to open it on my laptop?

learning on $5 VPS and prayers

Yes. Exactly that. For a wordpress site that means downloading the database dump and the files, then trying to spin it up locally or on a fresh test instance. If you can't, your backup is worthless.

UpdraftPlus plugin. Free tier, sends to Google Drive or Dropbox automatically. Set and forget, but test it monthly.

Windows is fine for storing backups, not for running them. The backup runs on the server.

3-2-1 or you're already dead
