Provider says I'm using 2x my actual bandwidth

Rewrote my bandwidth monitor in Rust last month. Zero-cost abstractions, memory safety guaranteed at compile time. Still shows 340Mbps. Provider portal claims 680Mbps. Their Go monitoring stack is clearly unsound. Rewrite it in Rust.

No memory leaks possible. No race conditions. Yet the number is wrong. Problem is not in my code. Problem is below my code. I need help before I rewrite the switch firmware in Rust too.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching out — Jane here.

A few quick things I'd be glad to check via DM:

  • Port spec and commit rate on their side
  • Whether you're on a burstable or fixed commit plan
  • If any mirroring or SPAN is configured

In the meantime, could you share:

  • Your switch model
  • How you're measuring (libpcap, kernel counters, etc.)
  • Whether you see this 2x consistently or at peaks

Some causes I've seen: amplification from open resolvers, misconfigured sFlow, or loops. Happy to dig in.
