Hot spares are a SCAM invented by drive vendors change my mind. Just use ZFS and a vendor with 4hr RMA. Skill issue if you keep 40% inventory like some kind of enterprise fossil.

I keep zero spares bc I buy the cheapest recertified drives from CloudCone and when one dies I just buy another for $12 shipped. A lot of ppl overthink this. Definitely not worth the shelf space imo. My last dead drive was 3 months ago and I had a new one in 5 days. Who cares.
$3/year. 128MB RAM. Pure happiness.

Zero spares here. Ticket open with KnownHost. Rma approved in four hours. Drive arrived tuesday. Replaced wednesday. Array rebuilt thursday. Waiting on smart data now. No downtime.
