RAID 6 on a dedicated EX42. Two drives dropped from the same batch, parity calc killed the rebuild. Hetzner's robot said "we begin replacement Monday, restore from backup." Weekend + holiday Monday + queue time = 72 hours. I had offsite backups but the RTO was supposed to be 4 hours per our internal SLA.
Poll: How many hosts have you abandoned in 2024?
This is why I stopped using Hetzner auction for anything stateful. The savings look great until you do the math on your own time value. I keep one for CI runners now, nothing that holds data I care about.
Selfhosting no possible. Electric in Da Nang very bad. UPS die two time. I try buy generator but noise neighbor complain. Hosting better but choose very hard.
Same problem in Lyon for our association. EDF grid is stable but the building wiring is from 1970. We looked at colocation but the cheapest in France is OVHcloud Gravelines and then we are back to OVHcloud.
OVHcloud Beauharnois is where I landed after my own migrations. Canadian datacenter, EUR pricing still, but at least the Debian 12 images exist. The deprecated image thing was only their US and EU cloud regions for some reason.
Zero abandoned. I have one Hetzner cloud box in Falkenstein since 2022, one Vultr in Frankfurt since 2023. Both boring, both stable. Maybe the trick is to stop chasing deals.
