Poll: GUI file manager or terminal for quick edits?

My homelab is all Proxmox and the electric bill was 340 EUR last quarter. I terminal into everything because opening the Proxmox web UI for file edits makes me feel like I'm configuring a router from 2008.

That said I have used WinSCP in weak moments. We do not speak of this.

Some people here say terminal but they have VS Code open I think. The poll is not honest maybe.

Yes, I say this also. In Lyon we have many startups using OVH, and the developers all say "terminal" but they use Cursor or VS Code with Remote-SSH. It is the same like saying "I cook at home" but you buy the sauce already made.

For me, I use terminal with vim for small edits. For the project PHP, I use SFTP in PHPStorm because the refacto is better.

Distinguish interface (TUI vs GUI) from transport (SSH vs HTTPS)

This. I voted terminal but my "terminal" is kate over sshfs which is... not really terminal? The poll is broken and my sleep schedule is too.

I tried actual vim on the server last week and forgot I had swap files from 2022. Three years of .nginx.conf.swp haunting that VPS.

This is exactly my measurement concern. In our incident postmortems we log transport method (SSH vs AWS SSM vs HTTPS) but never ask "did the human feel like they were in a terminal." The feeling is not the metric.

For quick edits I use mosh + tmux + vim. For investigating logs across 40 nodes I use our internal web UI. The tool matches the scope.

It's always DNS. Always.

Following this thread from Wellington and I have to ask—what's the cheapest VPS you all actually run stuff on? The 128GB DDR5 guy and the 1GB VPS guy are in the same thread and I'm trying to understand the range here.

Also is OVH actually good? I see them mentioned but the NZ latency to France seems rough.
