Cara, I need to vent about this, véi. I get the "free" IX port at Hetzner community exchange and going to tell you: it cost me $800 in cab fees, dat is crazy! The cross-connect, they say "bring your own fiber." Ok, I buy fiber. Then "oh you need the specific connector." Buy connector. Then "the path is too long, need 15 meter minimum." Buy more. Then electrician fee because "safety." Then the meet-me-room has no power outlet, need extension from three floor down. Each visit, cab fee, because Hetzner is in middle of nowhere industrial park, no train, no bus. Kkkkkk free port they said. Going to be cheap they said. My ASN is 64512 and going to peer with everyone, I thought. Véi, the dream was beautiful.

Server good, but the cost hidden, very bad. I have the same experience with the terminal at Leaseweb exchange, no? The "free" port cost me in hours many, because the documentation was bad and I have to call support every time. NEVER is free, no? The peering, it is good only if you have traffic to exchange.

The ancillary expenses accumulate themselves. I have observed similar issues at OVHcloud and Vultr exchanges. Kindly request the full cost breakdown in writing before committing. The cross-connect fees, power, and remote hands charges must be considered themselves. Your experience is unfortunate only.

What is a cab fee? Is that like taxi? I run a small hosting business and thought about peering to save money but now I'm worried. Do you need special cables for every provider?
