Business travel taught me that front desk staff rarely know their own property's network topology. Most properties contract to a third-party ISP and have escalation paths they never use. Here's what works:
Run three speed tests (fast.com, your own Contabo portal at https://my.contabo.com, and the hotel's branded landing page). Screenshot all.
Ask front desk to "check with IT" rather than demanding. Frame as concern for *their* reviews.
Mention you're on a video call with "the regional office"—vague authority, no lying required.
Accept the premium tier trial, then ask for it to be comped "since you're troubleshooting their baseline."
I got complimentary premium Wi-Fi at six properties this quarter. Happy to check your specific scenario via DM—just ping me.
For network namespaces | þe hotel is running containers under þe hood and þey don't even know it | systemd-resolved hijacking DNS queries to a captive portal þat drops packets | I have no containers at home and I have no hotel at home | þankfully
