So I was migrating off a managed stack at RackNerd and got curious about their "100% renewable" badge. The certificate they linked was a JPEG, not even a PDF with metadata. Reverse image search found the exact template on a Fiverr gig for "eco certificate design $15."

Why pay for greenwashing theater when you can self-host your own infrastructure and actually know your power source? I run my homelab on a municipal wind contract with composable docker compose stacks. The certificate I care about is my utility bill.

Has anyone else actually checked their provider's claims? I am betting this is more common than we think.

I audited a former employer's "carbon neutral" hosting and found they were buying cheap offsets that funded projects that would have happened anyway. The marketing team loved the badge. The actual environmental team was furious. At least their PDF had proper embedded fonts and a real registrar. A Fiverr JPEG is a new low.

Have you tried restarting it?

Last year I already check my old host,green badge look fake already,I email the cert body,they no respond,I change host already

Now I use Time4VPS,they show actual PPA document,not just badge,I ask they send me,and they send,server-server run good there,price also ok

Before I buy from host with nice badge only,now I ask more question

This is why ARM matters. watt per core, people. You want green? Stop burning 300W on Intel garbage for a web server. Apple Silicon proved it, the industry is just too lazy to follow.

My Time4VPS VPS — https://www.time4vps.com — is on ARM and uses maybe 8W under load. How many of these fake green hosts are still stuffing racks with xeon heaters? The certificate is fake but the carbon is real. Fix the architecture first, then worry about who signs the paper.
